This wildflower breastfeeding session was very special to this mama. The handsome little guy in these pictures is her first boy and her last baby. She’ll be weaning him soon and it will be the end of an era, so she wanted to capture these special mama-son moments. Though slightly bittersweet, it’s been amazing to watch this little guy grow and change!
This little boy was the one who got me excited about having my own son. He has a ready smile and a constant mischievous twinkle in those huge, blue eyes of his! As seen below, his special “thing” with his mama is her kissing his hand while he eats. The bond between these two is absolutely beautiful.
This was my first large family session and I made the rookie mistake of thinking that it would be ok to do at 3 pm in the blazing Florida sun (lesson learned). They were all troopers though, and so much fun!
Breastfeeding photography. A deeply personal and intimate bonding experience between mother and child captured on film. If you had asked me six months ago whether I thought I would ever photograph breastfeeding mamas, the answer would have been a big, fat NOPE! However, as some of you may know, I struggled massively with my own breastfeeding relationship with baby X. He had a tongue tie and hypertonic neck muscles that prohibited him from being able to properly feed. As a result, I was in constant pain and he was unable to get the nutrition he needed which resulted in many weeks of stress and misery for both of us.
Thankfully, I was not without resources! The women in my life offered me encouragement and told me stories of their own breastfeeding struggles, my husband supported me in my decision to push onward with breastfeeding and woke up with me during each night feeding, and my doctor helped me get connected with the right professionals. After resolving X’s tongue tie and getting him months of PT and Craniosacral Therapy, we now have a wonderful breastfeeding relationship! He’s five months old and we’re still going strong!
Breastfeeding photos have been the most requested type of session that I’ve done. However, due to the deeply personal nature of these photos, I decided that it wouldn’t be right of me to ask other mamas for permission to post some of their pictures, until I had posted my own. W took these photos of me and X on Mother’s Day and all editing was done by me.
Note: If you would like to schedule a baby feeding session (bottle or breast) no photos will ever be shared publicly without your express permission! I am thankful for the women who have entrusted me with capturing these intimate moments and would never betray that trust. Also, while I am grateful to be able to breastfeed my baby I’m also incredibly thankful to live in a time when formula is available! Supplementing allowed me to heal and to feed my baby when I couldn’t. So no matter whether you breastfeed or bottle feed, go you for feeding that baby!
Victoria and David recently welcomed baby Tristan (as seen in a previous post) and wanted to do a wildflower family session to celebrate their new family of three. Baby T was born to model…I think he gets it from his mama! He was so calm throughout the shoot and alert. I cannot get enough of their sweet little man!
I adore this family beyond words! This mama has a 5 YO, 3 YO, and a 9 MO and somehow manages to parent with grace and confidence. I have learned so much from her. Her children spread sunshine wherever they go…true Florida kids!
Anyways, I loved chasing them through the wildflowers trying to capture these moments! These pictures are perfectly imperfect. No poses or professional lighting, just the exuberance that only small girls in pretty dresses can manage while running through a field of flowers and chasing bubbles. May we all live our lives with such joy and abandon!
My first ever maternity wildflower session, featuring the beautiful Johana and her husband, Matt. They have been friends of ours long before we ever had our son and they are now expecting a daughter of their own! These two have lived all over the world together and own their own business- can’t wait to see where their parenting adventure takes them! Baby A, you are so loved already.
Thank you for letting me be a part of your journey.
